English/Spanish Psychologists

™˜™˜™˜™˜Psychological distress (depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias etc.) can manifest itself in many different ways (also through somatic manifestations) and can be dealt with different therapies.

Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that aims to cure or relieve psychological distress through processes mediated by words (“talking cure”), while pharmacotherapy through medication (drugs). There are different psychotherapeutic approaches and they can be very different from one another: for example, cognitive-behavioral theraphy and dynamic therapy set themselves different goals in addition to being differently structured. Simplifying synthetically, cognitive behavioral therapy tends to be shorter as it focuses mainly on eliminating the symptom and on correcting behaviours or thoughts considered dysfunctional. Dynamic therapy instead is mainly dedicated to understand the causes of sufference, and to comprehend how the symptom is related to the way of functioning of the person in different areas of his/her life (at work, in loving relationships); for these reasons it often requires longer time. Therefore, the elimination of the symptom is a consequence of the therapy more than the main aim.

Sometimes it may be difficult to seek help from a psychologist; it may be even more difficult to take this step if one is in a foreign country and therefore has difficulties in expressing himself/herself in a new language.

For this reason, we have created a mental health service in Milan offered in English and Spanish with qualified specialists expert in psychology and psychiatry (psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists dynamically oriented) who are either bilingual or have an excellent level of English and/or Spanish.
